Later the mansion provided the backdrop to the infamous Profumo Affair in the 60's. Today the house is a luxury hotel and the grounds are owned by the National Trust. Beautifully looked after with a brilliant maze (no the husband and Matilda failed to find the middle) and a great children's area complete with a fairytale Dolls house cafe and shop, it is a fabulous place to take children for a run around.
A great day out for children and adults, less than an hours drive from West London, one instantly escapes the real world as you step through the gates. I do look forward to the day when I can afford an extended stay at the hotel which looks stunning. For now I'll have to make do with peeking through the large windows that look out onto the Italianate terrace!
