Authors read and perform from their books and included favourites like Judith Kerr and Nicholas Allan, who Matilda saw yesterday. He read from his book The Royal Nappy: A Royal Baby Book, as well as doing a little magic show which by the looks of it Matilda loved. The children are positively encouraged to participate from taking part in discussions to even designing their own 'Royal Nappy'. There were lots of fun activities and every opportunity to get involved in literature over the 3 day festival. Matilda adores her books so she needs little encouragement to get stuck in.
The new Bush Theatre is fabulous, the last time I was there for a first night party it was a stripped out library but one could see the potential. It's been completely transformed and for the better, a great move for the Bush and finally a beautiful home that welcomes the local community. The snacks looked good and very reasonably priced, only £3 for a bowl of soup with artisan bread. Coffee was good and at £2 for a latte, a positive bargain in overpriced West London!
