A day at the Imagine Children's Festival

We finally made it to the Imagine Children's Festival at the Southbank, I was so sad to have missed it last year, alas we were sunning ourselves in Portugal. It's an arts festival for children where they are fully encouraged for one week only to rampage through the Royal Festival Hall with their crayons!

Workshops, performances run throughout the day for one whole week, though a word of warning, if you haven't already booked it's mostly now sold out. I thought it would be ok to turn up on the day and book but no such luck. Thankfully the husband had booked Schlomo, the Beatboxer for himself and Matilda. They reported back that he was brilliant, Matilda thoroughly enjoyed his performance and spent most of lunch trying to imitate him...

The sound of children having fun with making art, a time machine that distorts faces, squeals of excitement whilst listening to music in the Clore Ballroom, was thrilling. The place was packed with families and groups of students, it was wonderful to see so many children of all backgrounds getting involved in all areas of the arts. We had a great day wandering around exploring, being part of the buzz, and taking part in the activities. We ended the day with a trip to the Hayward but more on that tomorrow!

Meanwhile here are some images of our day, it's on until the weekend, so if you're able do just drop by to soak up the inspiring atmosphere.
